Tool Tip Tuesday:  Studio J

If you have spent any time on my blog at all, you know that I love Studio JStudio J solves a lot of problems that people have when it comes to memory keeping.  The biggest complaint…lack of time!  Studio J has Express Collections that allow you to complete layouts in minutes by simply dropping in your photos and adding a little journaling.  It really does not get any easier than that.  The other problem that it solves is a perceived lack of creativity.  If you don’t feel creative, start with the Express Collections.  Soon you will gain confidence and move on to the regular templates which allow you to modify color choices and more.  Eventually, you will want to try your hand at the No Limits layouts and design from a blank canvas!  Studio J also saves you money.  A double-page spread (aka Layout) is only $6.95…that’s it!  You don’t pay for kits, embellishments, templates, or software.  You simply pay for the layouts you receive in the mail.  It’s an amazing savings over other forms of digital scrapbooking.

Studio J Introduction

I uploaded several of my Studio J videos on Curious and created the following video as an introduction to my course.  I’m currently creating a new course that will be exclusive to Curious, so stay tuned for more information!

The good news is that you can save even more money on your Studio J layouts this month…they are only $5!  The bad news is that the month is 1/2 over.  Check out the following video from CTMH for more information:

Studio J – April Love Your Layout

I

n this video, you will learn some fun and trendy techniques in Studio J including adding stitching to My Stickease® images, accenting with background and texture “tape,” and creating a slanted border for a lovely layout in the For Always kit. I love this kit in person and on Studio J!

Studio J Techniques

  • Stitching ~ Place cropped and resized stitching over My Stickease®.
  • Faux Washi Tape ~ I love that we carry Washi tape now!  To add the same look to your Studio J layouts, simply crop a text box into the size of a piece of tape, rotate it slightly, and place it on top of the seam you are “taping” together.  Don’t for get that you can always add some real Washi tape to your printed layouts.  I have it on good authority that we are getting more colors of Washi tape in the new Idea Book!
  • Paper Strips ~ Use text boxes to create the look of strips of paper running off the edges of your layout.  My challenge to you is to use text boxes in Studio J just like you would with regular paper in classic scrapbooking.  You can add texture, distressing, layers, and more.  The only thing I haven’t figured out how to do is tear the paper, but CTMH has given us several Studio J templates with torn paper, so all is well!

Please leave a comment with a link to your completed layout!  I can’t wait to see how you use these techniques.

Digital Delights!

Feb2013-StudioJFebruary is sure to be a month of digital delights because you can purchase any Studio J layout for only $5—that’s a savings of $1.95 per layout!  This is a great opportunity to try Studio J for the first time or to join my Studio J club!

When you join my Studio J Club, you’ll earn 2x the rewards!

Studio J has something for everyone.  If you are new to digital scrapbooking or short on time, the Express Collections allow you to drop in your photos, add some journaling, and you are done!  If you have a little more time but still want Studio J to do most of the work, you can choose a regular layout with pre-placed embellishments.  If you really want to flex your creative muscles, you can start with a clean page and embellish to your heart’s content.  If you prefer hybrid layouts, you can leave the embellishments off all together and add them with your classic supplies once you receive your printed layout.  If you are a seasoned digital scrapbooker, you can drop your layouts or PNGs into the “No Limits” layout and use CTMH’s embellishments/papers to finish your artwork.

So, regardless of where you fall on this spectrum, the Studio J Club is for you!  When you sign up for the club, you will earn two different types of rewards:

1)      After you purchase your first 10 layouts, I will give you a FREE layout!

2)      When you place an order through the “Studio J Club” link each month, I will keep track of your retail purchases (includes both Studio J and regular product orders). Once you hit $150 in retail purchases (excludes shipping and tax), you will earn $25 in FREE select product credit (SPC).  SPC can be redeemed for Studio J layouts ($6.95/ea) and Studio J 5-packs ($39.95) in addition to a wide range of classic products.

In addition to the great rewards listed above, Studio J Club members are invited to attend free training sessions with me both in person and online.

Although my rewards program is fantastic, memory keeping with Studio J is the real prize!  Studio J is the most cost effective and quickest way to scrapbook.

1)      There is no software to purchase.  As long as you have a computer with an Internet connection, you can use Studio J for free!

2)      There are no templates or kits to purchase.  Studio J has 70 double-page templates and 108 kits…this is a savings of $2000+ depending on where you buy your digital supplies.

You only pay for your printed layouts!  A layout consists of 2 pages for $6.95.  During February, 2013, layouts are only $5, so this is a perfect time to try Studio J!

LOAD #31

I did it!  I created 31 layouts this month, and most of them were double-page spreads thanks to Studio J and the Express Collections!  I’m so proud of myself and excited to get my printed layouts.  Many of them are destined for additional bling!  Can’t wait to put on the finishing touches and then to store these fantastic memories in my albums.

Layout 30 is done!  One more day and I will have completed a layout a day for the entire month…woo hoo!

The photos on this layout are a little dark, so I may go back and lighten them up prior to printing, but I’m far too tired to do it right now.  We lost power in the middle of the night and woke to phone and smoke detector batteries chirping.  It was very annoying. Super glad that it was pajama day at school today…LOL!

This layout about my Aunt Mary’s 70th birthday part is another Studio J Express Collection!  I added more eyelets, because I’m going to either add Glitz Gel or Sparkles to the center of them once I get the print.  Love adding the bling to my Studio J prints!

Ah, Rome…lunch was the best of times and worst of times here!

“Our quest for lunch on day one began with me asking a vendor for the best pizza in Rome. She gave us directions to Francesco’s. We had seen it advertised as the best pizzeria in our guide book so were excited about eating there. Yet, excitement turned to annoyance when we couldn’t find it, so I just settled for a place that sounded similar and seemed to have a good deal. I should have known that the waiter was trying too hard to get us to eat there. I also should have walked away after I saw the revolting, oil-soaked bruschetta. Neal was so disgusted by the entire meal that he didn’t finish eating and left the table. He did snap a photo of Angie’s so-called pizza…with olives hidden under a slice of lunch meat… ugh! Seriously, how is this place still in business? When Neal returned, he wanted to show us something…he had found the other restaurant!”

Thank goodness we had another day in Rome, because we went back and had lunch at Francesco’s the next day.  It was delicious.  I still need to write a negative review for the other place, because poor, unsuspecting tourists need to be warned to stay far away from that dive! I won’t even begin to tell you what the bathroom was like…it isn’t the kind of story I can tell on a G-rated site like mine.  LOL!

Because learning never ends, this is how my teaching partner and I spent our duty free lunch period a couple days this week!  Who needs to eat when you can make cards, right?!  I’m glad this layout gave me the opportunity to document what he has been teaching me over the past couple of years.  Through example, he has taught me that I can lighten up and have more fun even while enforcing the rules.  It has made a huge difference in my attitude and the atmosphere of my classroom this year.
