Lost your creative mojo?

Clean crafting surface

Is your messy desk destroying your creativity?

For the longest time, I couldn’t figure out why I lost my creative mojo. This school year has been stressful, and I know I feel better when I engage in creative play through paper crafting. Yet, I would avoid my craft room and sit for hours mindlessly scrolling on my phone.  Why?!

On my way to work one morning, I was listening to the Happier podcast and Gretchen Rubin was talking about the anniversary of her book Outer Order, Inner Calm. Of course! The answer was so simple.

My craft room was an absolute mess. I didn’t have a clean surface on which to work, and the chaos of clutter was getting me down.  I didn’t even want to be in my craft room.

Now, I admit, I am completely lazy. I really didn’t want to clean my office (see my Instagram Reel…LOL!), but I knew that it had to be done if I had any hope of reviving my creative mojo.

It took me an entire weekend to purge and find a place for all my supplies. Once I was done, I was instantly motivated to create! Not only did I make a card, I filmed the process so that I could make a tutorial, and I cleaned everything up at the end of my crafting session. I felt so happy and accomplished!

If you are experiencing a lack of motivation to create, take a look at your space and see if that might be what is bringing you down. If it is, I highly encourage you to clean and purge. I know it isn’t any fun and takes time, but I do promise that it is so worth the effort.

Engaging in creative play is an important part of our mental health routine, so I hope this has helped you move one step closer to embracing your crafty mojo!

Please leave a comment and let me know if a messy desk keeps you from creating or if the clutter helps your creative process. I look forward to connecting with you!

About Author

My adventures as a CTMH consultant began in April of 2007. My goal was simply to meet my minimums so that I could enjoy the consultant discount. Little did I know that my passion for the products and teaching scrapbooking and stamping techniques would lead me to so many new friendships. I've had the good fortune to travel to a variety of CTMH events and was even asked to teach at the Studio J Boot Camp in 2011, Convention Extravaganza in 2012, and on the main stage at Convention 2015.
