I had so much fun celebrating World Card Making Day with Craft Roulette by making this adorable Cricut SVG card! The festivities started on Friday, October 3, 2025, when Mary announced the episode 287 parameters:
- Project: Saying Hi
- Colors: Crisp
- Element: Sun/Sunny
- Random: Pennants
She and Amanda Stevens made adorable cards on the show that evening. The next day, crafters from around the world joined them for another incredible World Card Making Day event.
SVG Inspiration from Crafty Al
My jumping-off point came from the ever-generous Crafty Al (aka Alicia), who gifted us a free SVG file during World Card Making Day. I loved the sunny vibes and decided to build on her design by pairing it with one of my own Kawaii sun faces and scaling the whole thing up to a 5×7 card. That’s the beauty of SVGs—you can resize to your heart’s content without losing any crispness. Win!

Let’s Talk Ink—and Elevation
After cutting all my pieces in Cricut Design Space, I started inking the edges. If you’ve ever looked at a die-cut and thought, “Hmm… something’s missing,” try adding a little ink. It’s like magic—suddenly your shapes have depth and interest.
I also used a blending tool to pounce coordinating ink onto the sentiment. It adds texture, ties the colors together, and just makes the whole thing feel a bit more finished.

Building the Kawaii Face
The Kawaii face has four layers: white for the eye shines, dark orange cheeks (though on camera they look a little red—don’t ask me why), black for the eyes and mouth, and finally the yellow top layer.
Pro tip: be super precise when lining up the mouth. It’s a delicate little cut, and letting the black peek through cleanly is what gives it that perfect cartoon expression—without having to glue on teeny-tiny mouth pieces. (No, thank you.)

If you want to design your own Kawaii faces (or any SVGs), I’ve got a video tutorial that walks you through it using Inkscape—a free, fabulous design program. Let me know in the comments if you’d like more Inkscape/SVG tutorials!
Pulling It All Together
Once everything was dry, I added white offset layers behind the sun and sentiment, then got to work on the card background. To keep all my little pieces in order (and avoid the dreaded “oops, glued it upside down”), I laid them out first, then adhered them onto a scrap piece of white cardstock.
After trimming the excess, I cut the background down just a smidge more to give me a nice white border. This subtle matting gives the card a clean, framed look.

Don’t Forget the Inside
Even though the pennant parameter was covered by the sun ray SVG, I really wanted to decorate the inside of the card. I added a stamped detail using the Kristina Werner Banner & Balloons stamp and stencil set from Concord & 9th. I love that the stencils let me use the exact same inks from the front of the card. Bonus: no coloring necessary!

Favorite Tip from WCMD!
Crafty Al also dropped a brilliant tip: Add magnets to your Pear Blossom Press ruler so it grips your glass mat. Perfect for getting that 1/8″ border lined up just right.

The Finishing Touch
To finish it all off, I popped up the sun with a double layer of foam tape (yes, I folded it on itself!) and used a single layer for the sentiment below. A little overlap, a little snip where the rays extended past the card edge, and voilà—a card that just radiates happy vibes.

Big thanks again to Crafty Al for the free SVG file. I absolutely adore how this card turned out—and I can’t wait to pop it in the mail to brighten someone’s day.
