Amy Ulen and The Creativity Playground

Welcome to The Creativity Playground blog where I hope to inspire you to take care of your mental health by engaging in creative play through paper crafting. 2021 marked the beginning of the newest iteration of this blog. I’m no longer a CTMH consultant, and I’m ready to recapture my crafting time for the pure joy of it and to help find balance between work and play. I invite you to join me on this journey and welcome you to a community of adults who value creative play.

Welcome to the ⭐️Fandom Friday⭐️ hop where “nerd”

Welcome to the ⭐️Fandom Friday⭐️ hop where “nerd” is a term of endearment and a point of pride! 🤓 This is a no-stress monthly hop on every 3rd Friday at 5 PM CST featuring our favorite fandoms! Please contact @artemismade1 or @journeycoachjenn if you’d like to join us!

❤️October Fandom Theme: Now Showing - Fandom that Started as a Book📚

(Let's turn the page and get started on the hop)

It was tough narrowing this one down since there are so many book fandoms that I love! I ended up going with my favorite barefoot adventurers. I made my own SVG file for the black framed silhouette using Inkscape and cutting it out with my Cricut. The die cuts come from @concordand9th, the cardstock and ink are retired CTMH, and the sentiment and white embossing powder come from @kindredstamps .

I hope you all had a wonderful World Card Making Day and weekend! I made this diagonal joy fold card using the leftover supplies from the Kindred Stamps release last week. This sentiment goes out to all my crafty friends! 🖖

Welcome to the 9 to 5 Hop...a tribute to Dolly Par

Welcome to the 9 to 5 Hop...a tribute to Dolly Parton! 🦋

"At Dolly’s request, Dolly’s fans and friends are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging @DollyParton or by leaving a message at dollyparton dot com. A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience."

The card hop date & time was selected as further tribute to Dolly’s iconic movie, Nine to Five. May today be known as Dolly Parton day! Hosted by: @itsawonderful_craft_life

Welcome to the Rainbow Connection hop! We challeng

Welcome to the Rainbow Connection hop! We challenge ourselves to create designs that only use rainbow colors and also must be a clean and simple design keeping 1/2 to 3/4 of the card empty. If you are up for the challenge, please DM @craftyengineer or @nAuntie to join! We are a monthly hop that occurs on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 1p ET. To see all the creations, check out #rainbowconnectionIGhop2026
#rainbowconnectionIGhopSeptember2026

😊 While my card is not exactly clean and simple, it does say "You're my rainboo" so I had to share it! I actually made this card for the Oh, So Inspired video hop that you can see on my YouTube channel (link in bio). I hope you will check it out after you finish the hop. 🌈

⭐️September Theme: Era You Ready?! (Decade Fandoms 🗓️ )

🖖 This month marks the 60th anniversary of Star Trek...a show that has spanned 6 decades!!!! I made these cards for the craft hop at the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas this summer. I even spent several hours one night crafting in the hotel room since I ran out of cards.

One of my favorite moments from the convention was meeting Bjo Trimble! She helped launch a letter writing campaign that renewed The Original Series for a third season which gave it enough episodes to enter syndication. Without those reruns, we might not be celebrating Star Trek all these decades later.

Live long and prosper, my crafty friends! 🖖

🌿 The two detailed projects come from the @concordand9th 2026 Winter Retreat where @jaycee.gaspar taught us all about Plant Life! Seriously, not only did he teach us how to make these beautiful cards, he also taught us a lot about the plants in real life! I ended up die cutting a lot of the plants so had extras leftover on my desk to make a couple more cards. Check out my YouTube channel for a tutorial for the "Have a Lovely Day" card that I made for the Oh, So Inspired hop.

Before you continue hopping, let me know which of these cards you like the best!
